About the IFA

Our History

Founded on January 8, 1889, the Illinois Firefighters Association, Inc. has stood alongside the men and women of the Illinois Fire Service for more than a century. From the earliest days of bucket brigades and horse-drawn engines to today's modern fire and emergency response, the IFA has been a steady voice for those who serve their communities.

Generations of Illinois firefighters have built the Association into what it is today: an organization rooted in tradition, driven by mission, and focused on the future of the Fire Service.

Our Mission

Dedicated to the advancement of the Fire Service by providing leadership. The Illinois Firefighters Association will proudly support the health and welfare of the community of firefighters in Illinois through education, training, benefits and information networking at the local, state and national levels.
